In The Center I consider my relationship to the subject matter of unsolved crimes and violence against women introspectively based on memories of times when I was in high risk situations. These works are abstractions of the clothing I was wearing at the time with some titles alluding to the locations where the incidents occurred. I use hand-dyeing to achieve the specific colors of my clothing from memory, and reference details with mixed media: appliqued mesh recalls the pocket lining of cargo pants while counterintuitive strapping calls to mind a particular halter top. I combine textiles with steel fabrication in some works to retroactively protect and reconstruct my former self.
